BOTIRES buyer guide
How Many 12R22.5 Truck Tires Fit in a 40HQ Container?
A practical 40HQ loading estimate for 12R22.5 truck tires, with the checks importers should make before comparing freight or CIF quotes.
Short answer: for 12R22.5 TBR truck tires, a practical planning number is often around 260-270 pcs per 40HQ. BOTIRES uses 265 pcs as a first estimate in the container loading calculator. It is not a final loading guarantee.
This question matters because many buyers ask for a CIF price before the loading plan is clear. If the loading quantity changes by even 10-20 tires, the unit freight cost, quote comparison and delivery plan can all change.
Why one number is never enough
The size printed on the sidewall is only the beginning. The final loading quantity can change because of tread depth, tire pattern, nesting method, tube and flap packing, container condition, payload limit, port requirement and whether the order is one size or a mixed-size container.
| Size | 40HQ planning estimate | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| 12R22.5 | About 265 pcs | Pattern depth, tubeless packing, one-size or mixed-size plan |
| 315/80R22.5 | About 250 pcs | Heavier casing, drive or steer use, nesting method |
| 11R22.5 | About 275 pcs | Market mix, casing strength, pallet or loose loading |
| 385/65R22.5 | About 205 pcs | Wide-base trailer use and weight limit |
| 12.00R20 | About 235 pcs | Tube/flap packing and rough-road demand |
What a buyer should send before asking for price
A strong loading inquiry should include tire size, quantity, destination port or city, tire structure, whether the order is for resale or fleet use, and whether the container is one size or mixed sizes. If you already have a preferred container type, mention 40HQ, 40GP or 20GP clearly.
If the tire order is for Africa or Central Asia, also describe the road use. A 12R22.5 tire for highway resale is not the same buying decision as a 12R22.5 tire for repair-heavy inland routes.
A cleaner way to compare suppliers
Before comparing FOB or CIF quotes, ask each supplier to show the loading assumption behind the price. Two quotes can look different simply because one supplier estimated 250 pcs and another estimated 265 pcs. That is not always a tire quality difference.
- Ask for the size and pattern used in the loading estimate.
- Ask whether tube and flap packing is included.
- Ask whether the quote uses one size or mixed sizes.
- Ask whether the container limit is volume, weight or packing method.
